The VLC RNE training courses are targeted at all countries in the Near East and North Africa. Our trainees come from a variety of institutions, including government agencies, universities, research institutions, and private sector organisations involved in FAO’s One Health mandate, TADs, zoonotic diseases and animal health. A network of Training Focal Points (TFPs) has been established across the region. These TFPs, nominated by their respective government veterinary authorities, support the regional activities of VLC RNE. The development and delivery of our courses starts with a phase of defining training needs and regional priorities. For this reason, the VLC RNE conducts regular training needs assessments to identify key gaps and address regional priorities. The assessments are updated periodically to reflect changes in the situation in the region.
Most of our courses are tutored, blending convenient, self-paced study with the unique opportunity to engage with international experts and regional colleagues. Translation into local languages is essential to reach a wide audience. Our courses are delivered in Arabic, English and soon in French.
Networking opportunities are facilitated through online discussion forums, live virtual sessions, social media, and messaging platforms. Participants exchange knowledge about training concepts under the guidance of trainers, connecting this knowledge with their observations in their home countries. As similar challenges are often encountered across different countries, virtual networking helps in developing locally appropriate and innovative solutions. Additionally, we provide platforms for regional virtual meetings and to raise awareness, particularly in emergency situations.
The principal VLC RNE courses include the Introduction to One Health course, the Lumpy Skin Disease Preparedness course, the Avian Influenza Preparedness course, and Sheep Pox and Goat Pox Preparedness course.
