The activities of the VLC SFW cover the fifteen countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). It aims to develop and provide high-quality training opportunities for learners and employs various methodologies to adapt its courses to meet the needs and regional contexts of West Africa. The VLC SFW work is carried out in close contact with Training Focal Points (TFPs) in eight francophone countries (Burkina Faso, Benin, Mali, Togo, Niger, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Senegal), five anglophone countries (Gambie, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria) and two lusophone countries (Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau). Specifically, the role of TFPs is to assist their country's Chief Veterinary Officer in organising training participants, ensure that nominated participants complete online training, and contribute to the training needs assessment process.
The VLC SFW courses are taught in English and French, some of the main ones are: the Prévention et contrôle de la Peste Porcine Africaine dans les milieux à ressources limitées course, the Avian Influenza Preparedness Course for West Africa / Cours de préparation aux situations d’urgence liées à l’influenza aviaire en Afrique de l'Ouest, the Female Leadership in One Health for Animal and Human Health Workers in West Africa course, the Biosecurity and One Health Course for Veterinary Paraprofessional.
