This online course introduces the key concepts and methods used to assess whether One Health approaches add value compared with single sector approaches. You will explore how integrated action across to improve health across sectors, e.g. human, animal and environment health, can generate economic and societal benefits, and how to present this evidence to inform investment decisions.
The course combines short online modules, step by step calculation exercises and facilitated discussion forums, supported by opening and closing webinars. It is designed for participants with no prior background in economic evaluation or economics of One Health.
The course has been developed by the Quadripartite under FAO’s lead, in collaboration with Cirad and the World Bank, with support from the Gates Foundation and UK International Development from the UK government.

- Members of the Quadripartite powered Community of Practice on Return on Investment (ROI) for One Health and One Health Investment Planning.
- Policy makers, technical staff and practitioners from human, animal, environmental and finance sectors who are new to economic evaluation of One Health.
- Professionals involved in planning, implementing or funding prevention, preparedness and response activities who wish to understand how the value of One Health can be assessed.

Course structure
|
|
The course is delivered fully online over five weeks and combines five self paced modules, an opening and closing webinar, short readings, tasks and guided calculation exercises, as well as discussion forums with trainers and peers. You will also be invited to complete a short pre course and post course survey and a final online assessment. To receive a certificate of completion, you are expected to work through all five modules, participate in at least one discussion fórum, and complete the final assessment, and both surveys.
