The FAO Virtual Learning Centers (VLCs) provide training that aims to develop a range of animal health and One Health competencies, addressing the interconnections between human, animal, and ecosystem health. The VLCs have delivered courses on a wide range of topics including prevention and control of infectious animal diseases One Health leadership and climate change.

Our audience		VLC courses are designed for a global audience working in areas related to FAO’s animal and One Health mandate. This includes veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals working in both the public and private sectors, extending to important allied professions where appropriate, including professionals working in public health, forestry, wildlife, aquaculture, and fisheries. Participants include university students, researchers and private sector representatives, making the VLCs a hub for cross-disciplinary learning and collaboration.

Building communities and driving innovation		Most VLC courses are tutored, offering a unique blend of self-paced learning and interactive discussions with international experts and regional peers. Participants engage in knowledge exchange through online forums, live virtual sessions, and social media platforms, fostering collaboration and problem-solving across countries. By addressing shared challenges and exchanging best practices, VLCs serve as a platform for South-South Cooperation, promoting innovative, locally relevant solutions.

Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)		The VLCs directly contribute to the 2030 Agenda, specifically: SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger): Building skills to improve agricultural productivity and sustainable food systems. SDG 5 (Gender Equality): Bridging gender gaps in access to training by identifying and addressing barriers to participation. SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities): Ensuring free and accessible training for diverse participants across regions. Through its global network, diverse training formats, and focus on inclusivity, VLCs play a critical role in advancing sustainable development and addressing global health challenges.
