Effective management and analysis of animal disease data at national level remains a significant challenge for veterinary services worldwide. Comprehensive data management systems are essential to transform field reports into actionable intelligence for timely disease control and prevention measures. FAO has developed National Animal Disease Information Platform under its Emergency Prevention System for Animal Health (EMPRES-i+ National) as a comprehensive web-based platform to support national veterinary services in managing, analyzing, and visualizing animal disease data. The EMPRES-i+ national platform serves as a secure central repository for disease information collected through the EMA-i+ mobile app and other sources of data in the country, allowing national veterinary services to securely store, process, and analyze disease data. The platform provides functionalities for disease mapping, trend analysis, and information sharing with relevant stakeholders, supporting evidence-based decision-making at the national level. This course is designed to support the effective use of EMPRES-i+ national platform and serves as a step-by-step guide.

Course structure

This course consists of two modules. The first module is a fifteen-minute introduction to the EMA-i+/EMPRES-i+ national disease reporting mechanism. The second module, 'Guide to National EMPRES-i+', is a series of eleven micro-learning videos that offer step-by-step guidance on how to use the EMPRES-i+ national platform, with each video being approximately three minutes long.
