This course aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of existing Farmer Field School (FFS) facilitators and master trainers to prepare and implement FFS on family poultry production, particularly broilers. It provides an opportunity to raise awareness on good animal husbandry practices, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and strategies to reduce antimicrobial use (AMU).

Learning objectives

Describe the principles and characteristics of family poultry production and poultry FFS.

Plan and design FFS activities on poultry production in collaboration with participating producers.

Describe key technical information on poultry production and health, including nutrition, feeding, hygiene, sanitation, biosecurity, poultry health, housing, and lock management.

Explain the importance of AMR, its underlying drivers (e.g. hygiene, sanitation, AMU), and its relation to One Health (human, animal, and environmental health) using discovery-based learning methods.

Describe the roles and responsibilities of FFS master trainers and facilitators during each phase of the poultry FFS.
- Discuss and apply essential technical information on poultry production, health, and broiler production within the FSS context.
